Final Product - CD Cover

As well as creating our indie music video, we have created a Promotional CD package. This product consists of the CD front cover, the inlay to the CD and the back cover of the CD.
We drafted our CD cover several times and developed aspects of each attempt to produce our final product. We used the software Disc Cover, in order to create the following drafts.

Final CD Cover

We decided to use the same image from draft Attempts 1 and 2. We also grey-scaled the image so that it conformed more closely to the generic conventions of the indie genre. Additionally, we used the same font in the band name '4 Kicks' as we did it attempt 2 as we thought it was a conventional font as it was bold and stood out. However, in progression from attempt 2, we decided to enlarge the font so that it stood out and appealed more to our target audience. Also, we decided to shorten the title as we felt the long title "I never get lost except by your side" was far too long and we wanted a short and sharp song title.

CD Inlay

The CD inlay allows the audience to view band members individually and in greater detail. The way in which the band members are in a similar setting and all wearing similar clothing connotes that they are of equal status and also creates a connection between each individual. The use of dark colours has connotations of masculinity and this is anchored by the four male’s stances in their images. This would also help to connect to the target audience and allow our target demographic to identify with the band members. We chose not to use any text in the inlay as we wanted a minimalistic look for our cover as a whole and didn’t want to clutter it with too much text.
CD Back Cover
We used a simple shot of the back of our band members for the back of our cd cover as we felt that it worked well with the fact that it is the ‘back’ of the CD. It also creates an enigma around the band members as hiding their faces creates mystery around the band. We also used the same typography as the used in the song title on the front cover to show one solid theme throughout all of our products.
